Senior Girl Scouts
Seniors look up to the sky! Seniors can choose from two unique options to complete a step of the Sky Badge. Troops can visit our farm and focus on the night sky, learning constellations, stars and planets. Seniors will be able to take an up close look at these features through our telescopes! ~OR~ Do you love to plan your own parties? Then host a star party at Jelli’s Market! We’ll provide a obstruction free view of the sky away from city lights to get the best possible look at then night sky- you bring the rest! Seniors are encouraged to organize the event for Girl Scout friends, troop leaders and even non Girl Scout friends. Bring along a star chart and a flashlight (green or white works best, and the more focused the beam, the better) and be able to trace the outlines of some constellations for your guests. Find bright patterns such as the Big Dipper or planets. Can you point out an artificial earth satellite? Share the Greek mythology or Native American stories that go with the constellations you point out! Be creative and use your imagination!
This activity is available year round and fulfills the requirements of step 1 of the Sky Badge.
We welcome Seniors to talk to the growing experts at Jelli’s Market about the benefits and challenges of being a local food producer. We’ll talk about the produce Jelli’s Market grows, "food miles" that the produce travels to be sold, and where the produce is sold at. Then Seniors will learn what food combinations make great recipes, how recipes are written, and finally, guide the Seniors on creating their own recipe using locally grown ingredients!
This activity is available May 1-August 31 and fulfills the requirements of steps 1 and 4 of the Locavore Badge.
Sow What Journey
